Training-Related Questions for South Shore Area Drivers
You must be 16 years of age or older.
Permit tests are given at full-service branches of the RMV on a walk-in basis, Monday through Friday.
You must bring your original birth certificate, Social Security card, and a completed learner’s permit application (signed by a parent or guardian if you are under 18). You also need two proofs of residence and $30 for the written test fee.
Observation is when a student sits in the back seat of the car during a driving lesson to observe another student driving.
Driving lessons are scheduled online at Schedule 2 Drive. Links to the scheduling portal can be found on our Home page or in the main menu of our website.
Each driving lesson runs for 1.5 to 2 hours, which includes one hour of active driving for the student.
There are typically 2 or 3 students in the vehicle during a driving lesson.
Students are picked up by an instructor at home, school, or work. The pick-up site should be designated at the time the lesson is booked.
The driver education program must be completed within 2 years.
Any missed class must be made up. Students must attend the specific make-up session for the exact class that was missed.
Yes. Students have the option of using one of our vehicles for a road test (Monday through Friday) for an additional fee. Please refer to our Fees section for details.
Yes.
We do not provide physical manuals. Students may obtain a manual at any Registry of Motor Vehicles branch.
